HCC news: Fun Day prayers

Pastor’s Message

I would like to start by thanking everyone who was serving this last week and continues to serve, whether at the front or in the background. Thank you all for the work you did and continue to do. I know that the weight of responsibility may differ, depending on what you are doing, but it is all service to God. May God continue to see your heart of service. The verse I had for this as I was reflecting was 2nd Corinthians 4:5-7.

For what we preach is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake. For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ. But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.

2 Corinthians 4:5-7

Now turning our attention to the Fun Day. This year, I had the feeling that we needed to do something gospel-centred. In addition to all the services we offer, we need to be more deliberate with our sharing of the gospel. To this end, we will have an evangelism station, but in addition, we will be inviting people to sign up for an Alpha course later. We still do not know the exact dates, but we are hoping for early next year. Therefore, we have some responsibility as far as this Family Fun Day is concerned.

Prayer: For all the elements, including the weather, the advertising, and the people coming. Please add to the list prayer for open and receptive hearts as we share the gospel during the event.

Inviting: We all know someone who we can invite to the Family Fun Day, right? So do not just think about it, but send the invitation out to them and follow up as well.

Pre-loved clothing: This is a good exercise for us. Go through your closet and bring out those clothes that you would like to donate.  Think of it as a time to do some “spring cleaning” to your closet.

Volunteering: There will be a variety of things to do on the day, so once we have the duties set up, please volunteer in one of the areas for a few hours. The event runs from 10 am to 2 pm, but for us helping, it’s a long day because we start at 8 am. Thank you all for being part of what God is doing at HCC and, by extension, in the Halswell area.

Have a spring-clean week.

Mato.

Community

A few weeks ago, we gave you a challenge. Between now and Christmas, please invite someone for a coffee or a lunch date and have a conversation with them, and get to know them better.

Thank you to everyone who has already done this. If you have not, that’s OK, as you still have time. If you are invited, please go along. You will be surprised at how much more you get to know people when you have a chance to listen to them one on one.

Can you help out on the day? We’re still after volunteers for a number of roles. Please take a look at the volunteer form near the door at church on Sunday.

Hi everyone!

I’m holding a Quiz Night to help raise funds for my upcoming school trip to Nepal, where I’ll be taking part in community projects and learning about life in a completely different culture.

I’d love your support, come along for a fun night of quizzing, prizes, and laughter! If you can't make it but know someone who loves quizzes, please let them know about the event. Thanks heaps.

Hope to see you there,

Emily
