HCC news: Galatians 4

Pastor’s Message

Happy New Month, everyone!! We are in May. If you are into Star Wars, this month has a significant date for you. If you aren't concerned about Star Wars, I know you care about Mother's Day, coming up on the 10th of March.

This year, we will be hearing from two incredible women on their motherhood journey, specifically related to raising children who keep their faith into adulthood. Whether we like it or not, someone or something is definitely shaping you and, by extension, your children in real time.

How do we make sure that we are contending for the lives of our children and our families? These mothers speaking to us exemplify the Proverbs 31 woman in more ways than one, and we will be gleaning some nuggets from their experiences.

Closely related, we are still on our journey in Galatians. This has somewhat slowed down in April due to the various church calendar events, the main one being Easter. We are still committed to studying God's word together systematically.

This week, we are up to Galatians 4. I would encourage you to read/listen to the first three chapters of Galatians, which underline that faith is through Christ and not human effort. It is not what we do, but what Christ has done. Understanding the first three chapters lays the foundation for what it means to live not under the law but like an heir to Christ, which is what we will be breaking down this week.

What I am saying is that as long as an heir is underage, he is no different from a slave, although he owns the whole estate. The heir is subject to guardians and trustees until the time set by his father. So also, when we were underage, we were in slavery under the elemental spiritual forces[a] of the world. But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship.[b]   Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba,[c] Father.” So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir.

Galatians 4:1-7

Have a confident week,

Mato

Community

This last week, we got to hear from our youth regarding Easter camp. Thank you to everyone who has prayed for and supported our youth over the years.

This is a call to continue praying for them and encouraging them. There is so much pressure to deal with as a young person, and many of them struggle with the day-to-day emotional toll, and we want to be the family that holds them both in prayer and other support. Please do not give up supporting them.
