HCC news: Living up to your calling

Good evening, one and all. Hope your week is going well, and hope your week has been revile-free.
It was our pleasure as a congregation to listen to Zack Howe deliver another inspiring and challenging sermon last Sunday from 1 Peter 3:8-20. I don’t know Howe he does it being so young (sorry, just trying to be pithy like Zack).
We are so blessed to have young people so fervent when it comes to the word of God, particularly in a world that has rejected God’s ways and chosen to do its own thing with devastating results.
Zack encouraged us to live up to our calling – guarding your life and witnessing and speaking wisely, gently and with respect, not in a reviling manner – criticising in an abusive or angrily insulting manner.
Those that live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.
But we are to respond gently, lovingly and with goodness, which is how God has treated us, and we are to do likewise. Big challenge there, Zack. Christ suffered for doing right and good, and it can also be expected for us, but don’t fuel the fire.
The church at Smyrna suffered waves of intense persecution, and Jesus said to them, “I know your afflictions and poverty, but you are rich.” (Revelation 2:9). And so are we all in Christ.
So Zack challenged us to live up to our calling and share these riches with others this week. Let's live up to this challenge where possible and pray for the opportunity to do so.
Blessings upon you all from Rob McAuley, filling in for Mato, who is off to climb Everest later this week.
Church Sundays

This week we will have Tim preaching to us as part of our Blueprint sermon series. On Sunday, Tim will be speaking on Acts chapter 1-5.

Hi everyone!
I’m holding a Quiz Night to help raise funds for my upcoming school trip to Nepal, where I’ll be taking part in community projects and learning about life in a completely different culture.
I’d love your support, come along for a fun night of quizzing, prizes, and laughter! If you can't make it but know someone who loves quizzes, please let them know about the event. Thanks heaps.
Hope to see you there,
Emily
