HCC news: Slowing down in December

Pastor’s Message

Slowing down in December

This week marks the beginning of several events... It's the first week of summer, the first week of December, and the first week we are allowed to put up Christmas trees. I know, I know, some of you put them up by October. We will forgive you. December has the equivalent of that Friday feeling as the week is ending. The sun is out for longer and people seem more festive (I wonder why).

As we revel in December, I would like to invite us into a reflective period. Instead of keeping up the hype of Christmas, how about we slow down and really enjoy the gift that is Christmas? The theme for this December, as we lead up to Christmas, is “Crowning a King, in silence, in reverence.” Anytime you are tempted to go into the rush, make a concerted effort to slow yourself down.

In the meantime, here are the services coming up. I would invite us to invite others as well. I would like to specifically invite you to our Christmas play and dedication service on the 14th, the very unique and exciting Christingle service on the 21st, and a carols and reading Christmas Eve service. We will then have a family service on Christmas Day.

Have a festive month,

Mato

On the pulpit this week…

The power of a story

As we conclude our series on Acts, we will look at an incident in Acts 21, where Paul is confronted and almost killed by the crowd. The story he tells frames his life in such a powerful way. From how God met him to how his life transformed and what changed in his life. He basically says that life is measured by how much of it is given away, not how much of it is preserved. So join us this week as we conclude this series.

Community

Children’s church

The children's ministry continues working on a Christmas play, coming up on 14th Dec. On that day, we will also be dedicating two of our young ones. Please commit them in prayer as they prepare and present. May the story be real in their lives as well.

On a lighter note, when you come into church, please consider sitting at the front. Leave the couches for the families with babies or young children.

Community

Youth dinner

Our annual youth group dinner is coming up on Thursday. This year, we are bringing all the groups that we serve together. Youth group, the Friday connections programme, and the Cashmere Project.

We know a lot of you will be involved in this, whether helping on the night or preparing food, and we appreciate your efforts!
