✍️ The Writing on the Wall

Today we start with the Midwinter Christmas. The aim is to bring us together for a night of bonding, catching up, and food, as well as a chance to invite people around you who would normally be uncomfortable in a church service but do not mind an informal setting. This is a family-friendly event, and that is why we start at 5pm. We will also have our famous quiz night. Please register on this link if you have not. We need numbers by Wednesday, 23rd July.
If you would like to cook something for the midwinter dinner, please talk to Margaret, and she will give you some clarity on what needs to be done.

Last week, Phil took us through Daniel 4. A lesson in pride and humility. Here is a conclusion of the message:
While some judgements are immediate and final, resulting in death amongst the wicked, others are gracious and remedial, resulting in brokenness, prayer, repentance, and restoration, as we see here in Nebuchadnezzar’s case. The Lord must have seen something in him to know that he would respond to this discipline…
How do we respond when the Lord disciplines us?
We ought to be thankful for His gracious and remedial judgements, for like a father, God loves and cares for us so much.

We continue onto chapter 5 this week. So far, there have been a lot of dreams and visions from King Nebuchadnezzar, and those dreams have been interpreted by Daniel.
At least twice, the king has declared that the God of Daniel is the most sovereign and powerful God and should be worshipped, but that has not deterred him or his family from considering themselves the ultimate rulers. The next chapter we look at involves writings on the wall.

⛪ Regarding Seven Oaks…
As we go through this transition, here are a few helpful thoughts that Tim shared…
God will continue to build His Church, and HCC is definitely His Church.
The church is the people, not meetings and not buildings.
We realise that this forced move will unsettle some, but the constant is the Lord Jesus.
We continue to worship him wherever we are.
We have an opportunity as tenants in a new space to show Jesus in how we interact with authorities and how we leave the space each week.
There will be big changes from a ‘turn up and go’ space to a ‘pack in and pack down’ space, so please join the call to help with what is required.
On August 3rd, our last week at Seven Oaks will be a celebration with cake and lots of prayers of thankfulness.

Youth and kids
Youth group resumes this Thursday evening. As a consequence of us having to move from Seven Oaks, we also have to look for a new premise to run the youth group. Please join us in prayer as we search for a suitable venue that is both close to Halswell and willing to offer their space for youth ministry and growth. We are considering community halls and other church venues as well.

We would like to extend our appreciation to those who have been helping with the readings during the service. It is very encouraging, creative, and engaging to listen to the word of God before our children go out. In the coming weeks, we will also be hearing from them regarding what they are learning and how they can apply their lessons during the week. A massive appreciation to those who have put their hands up to help with the children's church roster at every capacity. We really appreciate all of you.
