HCC newsletter: Why do we have excuses?

When you dig a little deeper, are excuses merely paper walls?

MESSAGE FROM THE PASTOR
Why do we have excuses?

Good evening, everyone!!!

This last week, we had the privilege of listening to the story of the "Prodigal" son. This parable, while named "The Prodigal Son," could actually be named "The Prodigal God" or even "The Two Lost Sons."

This parable encourages us to look inward, especially if you call yourself a Christian, at the misconceptions and preconceptions of being "lost."

This week we turn our attention to the wedding banquet. In Luke 14, Jesus talks to listeners in a banquet about a banquet. Here is part of the text:

12 Then Jesus said to his host, “When you give a luncheon or dinner, do not invite your friends, your brothers or sisters, your relatives, or your rich neighbours; if you do, they may invite you back and so you will be repaid. 13 But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, 14 and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.”

Luke 14:12-14

Jesus then talks about having excuses. This week we will focus on excuses. They are like paper walls. They look real, but when you dig deeper, it’s just an excuse. So, what really causes us to have excuses?

Join us this Sunday as we find out together.

COMMUNITY

Youth connections and a sausage sizzle

Our youth connections programme is up and running this week at the Halswell Hub with a sausage sizzle to start us off. Join us in prayer as we seek to engage the youth of this area.

Youth group and Cashmere Project are back in full swing this week. Please pray with us as we continue to disciple these young people and hope to continue growing both groups.

And finally, another congratulations to the McKessar family. Last Friday, Alice, Matt, Freida and Willa welcomed baby McKessar into their family. There was a cute photo of them during the service. We celebrate with them for this incredible blessing.
