HCC newsletter: The walls in our lives

How can we face these walls and bring them down?

MESSAGE FROM THE PASTOR
What are the walls in your life?

This past Sunday was a significant occasion, as we had our first baptism service at HCC.

What encouraged me the most was the support each of the ones getting baptised received from the wider congregation and how we were all invested in their baptism journey. Seeing the young children cheering on their grandpa and dad was also such a highlight.

The prayers that went into the baptism service and the prayers and words of encouragement that were shared with each of the baptised people after the baptism were significant and profound. May God bless each one of you for being willing to pray and encourage them.

This week, we have communion on Sunday, and we continue with our conquest sermon series. We are in Joshua 3.

For Israel, Jericho would be a benchmark of victory in their conquest. Joshua and the children of Israel had seen the waters’ part; they were no strangers to miracles, but before them stood the defiant, stubborn walls of Jericho.

Every one of us has a Jericho in our lives—a stubborn situation looming on our horizon. It may be walls that you have allowed others to build around you or walls you have built for yourself. High and mighty, keeping you from God’s promises in your life.

This world is full of walls: fear, guilt, anger, addictions/bondage, unforgiveness, old hurts/bitterness, bad attitude, crippling sin, pride, depression, etc. Walls keep us in. Walls keep others out. Walls create barriers between us.

How did Joshua and the Children of Israel face these walls of Jericho? How can we face the walls in our lives?

The three tools you can use to bring down the walls in your life are strategy, synergy, and stamina.

Join us this Sunday as we go through Joshua 3.

CHURCH SUNDAYS
A successful first baptism service at HCC

Six of our church community took the plunge this past Sunday. With the weather on the chilly side, the decision to hold the service inside was a wise one. Here are some of the highlights from the day.

We will have another baptism service either at the end of the year or at the beginning of 2025, so if you would like to be baptised then, you can start planning now.

CHURCH SUNDAYS
Save the date

Our AGM will be held on Sunday 9th June after the service. We would love if you could all attend.

YOUTH GROUP AND THE CASHMERE PROJECT
A busy month for our youth

This is a busy month for the youth group. We have the (B.N.O.) Big Night Out on Thursday, May 23rd. This is the night we invite youth from the community to join us for a fun night out, and then we share the gospel and invite them to youth group.

That weekend, the 25th and 26th of May, we have the Holy Spirit weekend coming up. Please pray for our youth leaders and youth group as we plan for these two important events.

COMMUNITY
Young Parents Life Group

We had our second families home group this past Sunday. It was encouraging to see families coming together and be willing to study the word of God, not only for themselves, but for their children as well.

We will give details about the next one soon, which will be held in June.
